Cyber Tip #2: Secure Your Wi-Fi — Keep Hackers Off Your Network
An unsecured Wi-Fi network is an open door to hackers. Here’s how to lock it tight in 10 minutes.

Hi there,
Your Wi-Fi network is the front door to your business’s digital world — and if it’s unlocked, hackers don’t even need to break in.
Here’s how to secure it today:
1) Change your default Wi-Fi name (SSID)
The name shouldn’t identify your business or router brand. Avoid names like “SmithCo Wi-Fi” or “Netgear123.”
2) Use WPA2 or WPA3 encryption
In your router settings, make sure you’re using WPA2-PSK (or WPA3 if available) with AES encryption.
Never use outdated WEP or unsecured networks.
3) Set a strong, unique Wi-Fi password
Use a long passphrase (e.g., OfficeCoffeeHorseshoe19!) — avoid short or common words.
4) Disable WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
This feature makes connecting easier, but it can be exploited by attackers.
Turn it off in your router admin panel.
5) Keep your router’s firmware up to date
Log into your router’s admin page every few months → check for updates → install them to patch security holes.
Action step today:
Log into your Wi-Fi router (usually at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) → check these 5 items → secure your network.
Remember: if your Wi-Fi is open or uses weak security, it’s like giving hackers a free seat in your office.
Stay safe,
